TAPIJN MAASTRICHT
The Tapijnkazerne is a former military barracks in the Dutch city of Maastricht. The approximately 6.3-hectare site on the edge of Maastricht city centre was in use as such from 1919 to 2010.
In 1927, the 1841 monument to General Dibbets was unveiled on the barracks' forecourt, which could no longer remain in its original location due to industrial expansion on the north side of Maastricht. In 1934, the barracks were named after Lorraine army engineer Sebastiaan Tapijn, who led the defence of Maastricht during the Siege of Maastricht (1579).
